Nick Baumgartner

Nick Baumgartner achieved another of his dreams in 201, winning Gold at the ESPN Winter X Games. Nobody expected a rider from the Midwestern resort Ski Brule, with a broken collarbone, to b e the one who ended Nate Holland's unprecedented winning streak but he did! "I was hungry for this," said Baumgartener, 29, a 205 pound former college linebacker from Ski Brule. "I came out to Colorado two weeks early because I didn't get picked for the World Championship team, but that gave me more time to train for this. Unfortunately that's when I broke my collarbone, but it almost got me in the right mindset, because I wasn't worried about getting out there and killing everyone. I just wanted to have fun and stay upright." When he won, he grabbed his 6 year old son, Landon, and hoisted him into the air. "To see the look on his face, to have your boy proud of you, there's nothing better, " Baumgartner said.

Nick Baumgartner truly is the All-American guy next door, combining athleticism, personality and determination to bring him to victory, earning him a place on the US Snowboard Team the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

A Michigan kid who grew up with a love for cold winters at Ski Brule, Baumgartner was as drawn to the slopes as a child is to his mother, and thus 2004, his first year in pro competition, proved to be the platform for innate success in yet another sport. Affectionately called "Bummie", he won the USASA Nationals and U.S. Extreme BoarderfestSBX events, while at the same time competing in rail and big air contests. Baumgartner has the goal of earning Gold at the 2010 Olympics, a feat that he believes can be accomplished since taking home the title of 2008 Visa SBX Champion and winning his first World Cup. In 2009, he finished things out atop the podium as he took second during the final World Cup snowboardcrossof the season in Italy. It was his second podium of the year, putting him 3rdoverall in the world in SBX.

Baumgartner's determination and quest for being the best came early on as a multi-sport athlete, proven by his accomplishments as an All-American wrestler and 2000 Michigan State Champ, garnering the same acclaim in track and field as a hurdler, and in football. He then went on to play college football at Northern Michigan University.

Baumgartner, becoming a household name in winter action sports, believes that with a balanced life, discipline, training, and always having fun, winning is the only option.

Nick passion runs deepest for one thing in particular , even more then snowboarding! His son Landon.

Nick resides in Iron River Michigan when not competing / training with the U.S. Snowboard team and is seen enjoying the slopes at Ski Brule routinely.
